STORY BEHIND THE TEA

One of the staples of japanese households, Mugicha is special in that it is actually made from barley, not tea leaves. Ippodo uses high quality barley, and roasts it at high temperatures. The result is a rich roasted aroma, a unique barley flavor, and a slightly sweet aftertaste.

Often made in large batches, Mugicha is especially popular in summer in Japan.

About Mugicha:
Mugicha consists of barley and therefore not tea in its most orthodox sense. Nonetheless it is one of the most popular casual teas in Japan, especially in tea bag form.  It is especially great if you boil it for a few minutes over the stove and enjoy it hot during winter and chilled in summer.
