STORY BEHIND THE TEA |
Made using the stems that are a by-product of processing sencha, or in this case Gyokuro, Kuki Sencha has a fresh, distinctive herb-like bouquet and sweetness, and goes nicely with food like dry fruit and lemon cake. About Kukicha: Kukicha is made as a side product in the production of Sencha and Gyokuro. This doesn’t mean it is a low-quality tea. How the name expresses, it mainly consists of 茎/kuki/twigs which make it a little bit nuttier sweet and balanced than the teas it is taken from, while maintaining some of their characteristics. Kukicha is a great daily drinker if you don’t want to exhaust your tea budget on high class green teas. In Japan it is also known as 雁ヶ音/karigane/“call of a wild goose“ or 白折り/shiraori/”white breakage”. |
