|STORY BEHIND THE CERAMIC
Park Yeon Tae, known as Gaeunyo, is one of the leading contemporary masters of Korean pottery. His art is deeply rooted in tradition and supported by his academic artistic education.
His exclusively wood-fired pottery expresses his endeavour to convey the core of traditional Korean tea culture to contemporary tea connoisseurs.
Devoted mostly to the Buncheong style of Korean pottery, he expresses the nature-bond and harmonious spirit of Korean tea culture.
Buncheong style, originating in the 14th century, is characterised by the use of dark, iron bearing clay, decorated with a white slip in various forms, and a clear glaze.
This teapot has been decorated with the white slip, then processed using the scraffito technique, resulting in a natural, ascetic form.
