STORY BEHIND THE TEA |
Containing tealeaves from the first plucking of the year, a true rarity under Genmaicha. The Umami of the tea compliments the roasty notes of the rice well, making it a very elegant comfort tea.
Genmaicha goes well with meals. It is also a good choice for ochazuke (tea poured over rice accompanied by Japanese pickled vegetables).
About Genmaicha: Genmaicha is one of the most popular Japanese teas. Not being able to afford high quality teas, the common people of feudal Japan used 玄米/genmai/brown rice to both stretch and enrich the flavor of their tea. It could be argued that through this history the roasty aroma of the rice became part of the Japanese DNA and it remained sought after even after other types of green tea became affordable.
